Course Description

In this over 15 hour online course, spread over 7 months, you will learn the basics of how to deal with clients with a variety of arthritic conditions in a movement studio setting. You will learn about the differences of a variety of arthritic conditions from osteoarthritis to a number of autoimmune arthritic conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scleroderma and how the diseases, symptoms and medications can affect the quality of life of your client.

The course will go through the specificities and differences of these common arthritic conditions and also some common diagnostic reports provided to clients; symptoms and treatments such as joint damage and post joint replacement treatments, hand complications, tendinopathies and Raynaud’s Phenomenon.

Dr Janet Schloss will also be speaking about the various medications and their impact on the immune system response.

Most of the course focuses on practical applications and exercises that you can start implementing immediately in the studio with your clients. You will learn exercises for increased balance, reaction times and strength. All of them are specifically tailored for clients with various arthritic conditions as well as with different other needs associated with rheumatoid disease.

Learning Outcomes

Students should complete this course with an understanding:
// that rheumatoid conditions can derive from degeneration, infections and autoimmune causes. The nature of the underlying cause will affect the patterns and joints differently, which is important in a movement studio setting
// the patterns of muscles and function affected in a number of key arthritic conditions like
– Osteoarthritis
– Rheumatoid Arthritis
– Spondyarthritic Diseases (ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis)
– Scleroderma
– Raynaud’s Syndrome
// of how the disease, treatments, and environment will affect a client’s function. This information will feed into important studio strategies and repertoire choices in a movement studio setting.

All the repertoire is filmed and the videos contain information about the focus and purpose for each exercise as well as cueing tips and other useful information.

You will also get the opportunity to learn first hand from our teachers in an extension course that is either live online or face to face, which is only available to students enrolled in this online course or the Chronic-L’s advanced certification.
