Course Description

The Hashimoto’s Disease course will teach you what Hashimoto’s disease is and how it affects the body. It will be looking at who is most likely to be affected and the symptoms associated with the disease. You will also learn what strategies to apply in your practice when working with clients with this condition. It is full of easily understandable and applicable exercises that you can use straight away to improve the wellbeing of your clients with Hashimoto’s Disease.

The first section of the course is an explanation of what happens in the body when someone has Hashimoto’s disease. It explains the function of the thyroid, pituitary glands and the hormonal axis. You will then look at how Hashimoto’s is an auto-immune condition and what that means and discuss the symptoms of the disease and their links to the thyroid hormones.

A large part of the course is devoted to understanding the considerations that need to be taken in a movement studio setting, so that you as a teacher feel comfortable teaching clients with this condition after finishing the course. You will learn how to adjust for the clients difficulty to regulate temperature, muscle weakness, fatigue, memory loss etc.

The second part of the course focuses on exercise considerations. You will learn what you can do in the movement studio to assist with alleviating symptoms and preventing or delaying onset of symptoms. The repertoire specifically looks at addressing tendon reflexes and responses, osteopenia and sarcopenia as well as resistance work.

The course also consists of three 30 minute flow classes showing examples for how to programme for clients with Hashimoto’s disease. The program classes incorporate the:
// Wunda Chair
// Trapeze Table
// Spine Corrector
// the CoreAlign (with options given to adapt to the Reformer if you do not have a CoreAlign)
