Cancer is a reality that affects one in three Australian men and one in four Australian women. Thanks to advancements in medical treatment, the five-year survival rate has significantly improved—from 46.9% in 1982-1987 to 66.1% in 2006-2010.
As movement practitioners, we are increasingly working with clients who have been diagnosed with cancer, are undergoing treatment, or are navigating recovery. Understanding the impact of cancer and its treatments on the body is essential to providing safe, effective support.
This course explores the physiological effects of cancer, the various treatment approaches, and how they influence movement, strength, and overall well-being. We will also examine the role of medication in exercise prescription and discuss practical strategies for adapting movement practices to meet the needs of clients at different stages of their journey. Additionally, we will explore common movement patterns and exercises to help practitioners confidently support clients in their rehabilitation and recovery.
